American Coot

(Fulica americana)

Found in abundance throughout North America along lakes and ponds. Often can be seen in large numbers walking on open land or along banks amongst vegetation and swimming in open water. The American Coot does not have webbed feet however; it has long lobed toes that enable it to kick through water and still swim like a duck.
